The City of Lawn and the City Council would like to post the following announcement and notice as required by Texas Water Development Board .

 The City of Lawn has awarded contracts for the 2021 TWDB Water Line Replacement project to replace old and deteriorated water line with new PVC water line near Oplin and Lake Coleman. The project is administered by the Texas Water Development Board and wholly funded by the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund program.  


The Improvements for all lines and storage facilities in cooperation with Buffalo Gap and Tuscola were completed as of end of year 2022 


 The City of Lawn is asking all customers to conserve water use and to check all your water pipes for leaks during the summer months,  and especially during freezing winter weather.

DRAINAGE AND CULVERT WORK WILL AFFECT AVE A UNTIL JULY 2023 OR FULLY COMPLETED

   Lawn is at the intersection of U.S. Highway 84, Farm Road 604, and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, twenty-four miles south of Abilene in southeastern Taylor County.  The town was first settled back in the 1890s. With the arrival of the railroad in 1909, Lawn became "Old Lawn" as "New" Lawn

incorporated in 1925, set up business alongside the rails. Old Lawn declined as rapidly as most towns bypassed by the railroad.

The move also erased the name of Jim Ned from Texas maps. Jim Ned had been the name of the community until a new post office was opened in 1910. The person Jim Ned was a Delaware Indian chief who had been a scout for the Texas militia during the years of the Republic (and early statehood).  The post office and town changed names, but Jim

Lawn is home to Precinct 4  Justice of the Peace.  There are several businesses operating in town including a small art gallery.  The Mayfield Memorial library was established in one of the old historic buildings on Main St.  Lawn maintains a Volunteer Fire Department within the city limits.  Three Churches are still active in Lawn.  The

the City of Abilene and Lawn acts as independent water distribution system .

Lawn adopts, Abilene's Water Conservation Plan 

for Conserving  Water as needed in times of drought & heat.
